Dear Marlene
This site could not come at a better time for me. I have been a somewhat healthy eater for most of my adult life. I found out about a year ago that I have high blood pressure so that just prompted me even more to healthy eating. I also would like to get my kids eating healthy so I pray as well that this site would be a ray of sunshine for me. I will definitely share the link with all that I can.
DIET AND LIFESTYLE DO’S AND DON’TS DO
· Fruit
· Leafy green vegetables
· Legumes
· Celery
· Squash
· Garlic
· Guava
· Pear
· Grapefruit
· Fiber – flaxseed is an excellent source of fiber, ¼ cup ground flax with ½ cup soymilk, drink right away or it will become thick and oily.
· Potassium – found in bananas, potatoes, tomatoes, peaches, avocados, oranges
· Calcium – spinach and broccoli
· Magnesium – cooked dried beans and peas, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, soybeans
· Omega 3 fatty acids –Flaxseed, walnuts, soy products
· A vegetarian diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, is the best way to lower high blood pressure. If not make sure to minimize your intake of animal fat.
· Live juices are very effective for lowering blood pressure – celery, carrot, beet, watermelon, citrus, parsley, spinach and cranberry. Take 6 stalks of celery, 2 carrots, and 1 apple and juice. This is only enough for one sitting, and you will need 4 eight ounce glasses of this mix per day. Have one before breakfast, one before lunch and the last two for supper. {Supper like a pauper}
· Whole grains – brown rice, rolled oats, millet, barley etc.
· Drink only distilled water
· Rest is very important, so make certain you get sufficient sleep. At least 7 -8 hours nightly is recommended. It is also recommended that one get to bed at least by
· Begin with a day of fasting, followed by three days in which only apples are eaten (raw, cooked, stewed, dried or frozen) at each of three meals. Apples have been found by Dr. B.S. Levin to have a beneficial effect on the blood pressure. After the three days of apples, for the following two days eat only fruit and salt-free, whole grain bread for breakfast, and vegetables and the salt-free bread for dinner. Eat only one apple for supper. (Omit supper if overweight). FASTING 3 DAYS EACH MONTH HELPS TO DETOX AND CLEANSE THE SYSTEM OF TOXINS.
· Careful attention to proper clothing of the extremities is essential to calm the autonomic nervous system and to equalize the circulation. Cool skin causes an alarm reaction in the autonomic nerves. Chilled tissues cause the blood to shunt from the extremities to the interior of the body where vital organs are congested and their function is made less efficient. Keep all skin warm except during active sweating for cooling. Check especially the hands and feet, the backs of the arms, and the sides of the thighs. Wear only clothing loose enough to move up and down freely. Adaptation to messages from the skin signaling chilling takes a large tax from nerve energy resources.
DON’TS
· Caffeine drinks and foods with caffeine should be avoided at all cost
· Chocolate · Alcohol · Spices – avoid cinnamon, nutmeg, mace and in there place use coriander and cardamon · Fermented {foods with vinegar} pickles, hot sauce, soy sauce, · AVOID ALL animal meats and meat products. · Cheese - a substance called tyrasine breaks down to tyramine, a chemical capable of constricting blood vessels and causing headaches or an increase in blood pressure. It is well for all to leave off cheese for the sake of healthy blood vessel reactions. · Salt – no more than one-half to one teaspoon of salt per day. Baking soda and baking powder are also high in sodium, as well as being unhealthful in other ways. All baked goods using these substances should be avoided. After high blood pressure has developed, salt, baking soda, baking powder, most antacids, even toothpaste and all other sources of sodium may need to be eliminated for a time until the blood pressure is entirely normal and stable. Do not forget that sodium is in many over-the-counter and prescription drugs. Sodium is present in most antacids. · Free fats promote high blood pressure. Any fat that is added to your food, while cooking, is considered free fat. The blood vessels are apparently sensitive to fats and the entire cardiovascular system responds to their presence by maintaining greater tension. According to my doctor my cholesterol level is very high, what should I do?
Cholesterol ia a fatty substance manufactured by the liver and is found only in animal fat. It is needed to form sex and adrenal hormones, vitamin D, and bile salts. It also has a vital function in the brain and nerves. Research has indicated that increased intake of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated forms of faty acids can lower blood cholesterol.
Cholesterol is manufactured from dietary fats, saturated fats, and refined carbohydrates. In addition, all cells in the body synthesize cholesterol; however, the liver and intestines are the major producers. The production averages about 1 to 2 grams per day and takes place even if there is no cholesterol consumed.
When cholesterol levels in the blood become abnormally high, fatty deposits compose of both cholesterol and calcium tend to accumulate in the arteries, including those of the heart-a situation that increases the susceptibility to heart attacks and other complications. Cholesterol deposits occur mostly in parts of the blood vessels which have been weakened by high blood or undue strain. Another collection point for fatty cholesterol deposits and plaque, one of the first signs of heart disease in men, may be in the arteries that supply the penis, making it less full during an erection.
There are other factors besides diet that contribute to high cholesterol, these include stress, anxiety, smoking, overeating, lack of exercise, and high consumption of refined carbohydrates. Also we should consider the facts that the individual may have diabetes, gout and high blood pressure.
The normal cholesterol level should be no more than 100 + your age, or lower.

I found out that I have cancer and I want to know what do you think about chemotherapy and radiation?
Poor diet and environmental factors are special causes of tumors. Changing both of these can reverse the process and even eliminate these strange growths. The body uses tumors as containers in which to store toxic waste collected throughout the body, when the system's natural ways of elimination are overloaded: lungs, bowels, kidneys, liver, and skin. When these channels of elimination become clogged or inadequate to care for the excess refuse, then the body starts manufacturing garbage cans [the tumors] and placing the waste products in them.
A doctor can burn, cut or radiate them away but soon the body will manufacture more of them. The best solution is to change your lifestyle. A complete change is totally necessary.
Cancer
Fresh juice, made daily.
A blend of carrot, celery, and beet juice.
4 carrots
2-3 stalks celery
1 beet
Juice and drink.
The goal with juicing is ou want at least 48 ounces of juice daily. Make this a part of your lifestyle.
In addition
Avoid all animal products and become a vegetarian immediately. You do not have a choice if you really want to live a better quality of life. This would include all dairy products, [milk, ice cream, creamed soups, cheese and countless other foods], chicken, fish, turkey, pork, beef, eggs, etc.
Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Ideally you should aim for your meals to be 75-80 percent raw.

Start taking hot and cold baths. A cold bath is great for boosting the immune system. [Not if you have a cold].
Avoid sugar, and foods with sugar. Sugar destroys the immune system. Sugar eaten in large amounts is more dangerous than meat.
Execise in fresh air daily. 20-30 minute walks in nature will help to revive and rejuvinate your immune.
Drink lots of fresh water. Half your body weight in ounces. 8-10 glasses daily. No soft drinks or alcohol please.
Get rid of the stress in your life. Depend on God. Tust Him for everything.

Hi Ms Marlene, I have ran into a problem. I have been eating sensible but I feel that the weight isn't coming off. Then someone told me that I am not eating enough food. They also said that because I am not eating that much, my body is holding onto the calories that I intake and storing it as fat. Is that true and if it is how much calories should I be taking in? I know this is a mouthful Marlene: Will you please tell me what you and how much you are eating during a typical day. OK here goes, I drink a slim fast shake around 8AM in the morning, then sometimes fruits to snack on to hold me until lunch which is around 12:30PM which is another shake, then my meal for dinner varies, it all depends on when I get home, so it can be between 6 - 8PM. Dinner is usually bake chicken/white rice or bake chicken/roasted chicken rice, or a bowl of cereal. I like that you are having breakfast everyday, as this is the most important meal of the day. I an concerned however that you are not having sufficient breakfast and too much dinner. If you could simply try to have your heaviest meal during the morning hours this will prove to be very beneficial to your weight loss journey. There are many reasons why we advocate a heavier breakfast, one being that we are more active during the earlier part of day and tend to burn of those calories long before the evening hours set in. Also when we eat a heavy evening meal we are not as hungry in the morning. So we set ourselves up for failure. It is a vicious cycle and it needs to be broken, because we are always starving by dinner, causing us to overeat. Do not eat anything in between meals at least 4 1\2 to 5 hours. It is not best to eat less than 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day. When we eat so little calories in a day eventually this leads to a slow in the metabolism. The body begins to conserve energy for later on. So it really does not pay of to eat so little. We are not as active during the evening, for the most part we are sedentary. We may watch television, lay around but we are usually inactive. If your breakfast is heavy enough then the tendency to snack will be nill. But saving most of those calories for the end of the day and your hunger hormones will go haywire, causing you to overeat. The reason you feel for the fruit in between breakfast and lunch is because breakfast was not enough. It would even be better if you enjoyed your fruit with your slimfast drink. However it is always my recommendation that you eat a great breakfast. Is it possible that you make your last meal no later than 4 p.m.? The results will be phenomenol. Let us remember that anything eaten after 6 turns into fat and cholesterol. Are you exercising? This is very important for any weight loss programs. You need to set aside at least one hour everyday for exercise. If you could do more that would be even better. Walking is the best form of exercise you could find because it is safe, it requires only good walking shoes and it is fun. Remember you are not on a diet, this is a lifestyle. Make changes that you can live with for the rest of your life. You will not want to drink your meals for the rest of your life. Would you? So lets see if we can help you make some healthier choices. |
I want to know about mushrooms, should I add them to my food? So many cooks are using them in their dishes that I am tempted to do likewise.
Certain mushrooms have been reported to be cancer-producing in animals. It would be wise to omit mushrooms from the dietary. There is the reishi and shitake and they are known to have some medicinal properties, however they should not be taken for prolonged periods of time.
